after a long day of wandering aimlessly, hoping to come across some fresh, juicy brains to chew on; his leg joints stiff as rusty pipes, ol' willy johnson, what is left of him anyways, shuffles pathetically off into the sunset, seeking the cool shadows of his favorite basement on the hill, where he can lean against the concrete walls and dream of better days.

ned never sleeps
ned was dead tired when dawn lit the morning sky but there was something there on the grimy blood-smeared screen, something he had created of his very own. a strange warm feeling began to creep through the cold rigor mortis of his limbs and spread across the empty place in his chest where his heart used to beat. could it be happiness?

lester "less" noggin - zombie listener
even though lester didn't have any ears, he was the perfect listener. fellow zombies could confide in him, spill their guts so to speak, and know that their trials and tribulations would be kept in the strictest of confidence. lester always dressed in a simple sport coat and tie and could be found sitting at his desk anytime day or night. little did his confessors realize that lester was easily embarrassed.

zombies on the move
a final application of color (i use prismacolor markers and pencils), a few more marks with the micron and some soft tropical foliage in the background. voila! a zombie drawing suitable for framing.
everyone should have a pack of zombies following them around.

layers of zombie goodness
okay - yesterday i set to work on this drawing with a couple of micron pens and an eraser. to be honest, i don't like this step in the process because i love pencil drawings more than anything and rough sketches even more. and because here i have to make fairly permanent decisions with the lines and - sob - erase the extraneous pencil work. once that's finished, i can go in with some light markers and give these characters a little volume and, hopefully, establish their smelly creepiness. for some reason, i love the gap between this motley crew of bumbling zombies and the woman they are zeroing in on. that empty space seems like its own character in the scene.

what if zombies had smart phones?
zombies need a little help, right? instead of standing around waiting for some unsuspecting live person to wander into their midst, what if a zombie software developer created an app that got live people to tell zombies where they were? wouldn't that be great? the live person would download the app to their smart phone because it's free. the app would have only one button - 'eat my brains' and they'd push it because,..well, it's a button. the app would then send a signal to all the zombies within slow shambling distance and, using their own app, they'd navigate to the person who pushed the button. fun for everyone! anyways, that's the concept behind zombie information system or ZIS. this is a preliminary sketch of how the system would work.
